Stunning and sophisticated, this coat is a must have in any wardrobe.

Vintage John T. Shayne fur coat, likely made from nutria with lynx accents. John T. Shayne & Company was a Chicago-based hatter and furrier founded in 1884, known for high-quality materials and classic designs.

Key Features

Front slit pockets and hidden interior pockets with satin lining and double hook and eye closure.

Material:

  • Nutria: The main part of the coat appears to have the characteristics of nutria fur. Nutria has soft, dense underfur and longer guard hairs, often appearing in shades of brown and beige. When processed (often sheared or plucked), it can look smooth and plush, similar to mink, but is known for its durability and water resistance.
  • Lynx: The large, fluffy collar is consistent with lynx fur, which is known for its long, silky guard hairs and very dense underfur, providing a luxurious and warm feel. Lynx fur is typically light-colored (white, gray, or cream) with natural dark spotting, which is a key characteristic visible on the coat's collar

Style: It features a full-length, overcoat style with a large shawl collar and a leather tie belt. The belt run in the interior along the backside and can be worn internally, or pulled out for a wrap belt. This overcoat style and quality craftsmanship were characteristic of the brand's luxurious offerings

No size tag but measures around medium.

Pit to Pit: 20

Length: 43 from back of collar

Very good vintage condition but not flawless. There is a stain on the interior lining and one of the hidden interior pockets is damaged. The top closure is in tact and functional and the bottom is present, but one side needs to be stitched back on. The fur is soft and supple with no shedding and all seams checked appear to be tight. Please review photos. It's an amazing coat!!!
